I am a great-granddaughter of Laurance (Lawrence) V. Glynn (born ~1852 in Gort) and Mary Agnes Stazza Glynn (born 1867or 1868 in Madras, India). Their children, Cecelia and Mary Agnes were also born in India before the famiily moved back to Boland's Lane in the late 1880's. Other children were Patrick (b. ~1887), John, Cathleen/Kathleen/Cathline (b. Birr 1896, baptized St. Brendon Church), Anne (died ~ age 2 after falling in fire) and my grandmother, Bridget/Bridie (b. Nov. 1899, baptized 12-Nov-1899, St. Colman's church). Lawrence's parents were Patrick Glynn & Celia Ward and he had siblings Thomas, Margaret, James & Timothy. Lawrence died in Gort 14-Nov-1905, from injuries suffered in a fall. His children and widow had all emigrated to NY by 1909. If there are any Glynn relatives still living in Ireland, my husband and I would like to meet you.

Hi Kathy
We don't usually get Irish family members looking on the site to connect with relatives from other countries but I can tell you that therer are 36 Glynn contact details in the Irish phone book in Galway.
I am not able to pass these on due to privacy issues but would encourage you to draft a letter outlining your info & send it off to all of them - we have had success from this.
The Irish phone book is found by googling 11850 Directory Enquiries; select People Search & enter Glynn & Galway.

Dear Cathy:
There is a wonderful nun in Gort who may also be able to help you. Sr. DeLourdes Fahy is a member of Ireland Reaching Out in the Gort area. If you would like me to give you her email address, please message me at: tulla@irelandxo.com.
Kind regards,
Jane.

Thank you both for getting back to me. I had tried googling "Galway telephone book" but wasn't getting to the right place. I'll try Col's suggestion now, and also see if there are still some Nee family members in Galway. That would be my grandfather's side.
Kind regards,
Cathy

Hi Cathy,
My Glynn family also came from Gort. My great grandmother Ellen Glynn b 1858 was the daughter of Patrick Glynn and
Bridget Ruane. My Patrick and Bridget were married in Gort in 1856 another Patrick Glynn was the witness at their wedding.
I wonder if that was your Patrick.
My Glynns lived on Bolands Lane, which is directly across the street from the church.

Betty

Hello there, I also am interested in the Glynn family. I believe my Great Great Grandmother is Catherine Glynn from the Gort area. She had a son Thomas Nolan unmarried, as researched by Sr Delordes Fahy from Gort. Her partner was a Thomas Nolan also. Young Thomas emigrated to Australia in 1876 at the age of 19 and I have tracked this journey and his life todate. But now I want to find his father Thomas Nolan and Catherine Glynn. I really confused as to where to look. I noticed this post on the Glynn family and hope I can join in.

Hi Fred
Have you tried subscribing to rootsireland.ie-they have a lot of Gort records. I was able to find my g-g grandparent's marriage there.

Thanks Betty, I will try that today. She would have only been a young girl I expect, and I have no info on her parents, or that of Thomas. I do have the birth register that Sr DeLordes located for 4 November 1856. I have looked at Family Tree's as an attempt to see if she possibly appears in any that may have been done. A Mary Rourke is listed as a single Godparent.

Hi Cathy/Fred
Have you considered doing the Ancestry DNA test? I know a Glynn, currently living in Gort, who has taken the test. It shows that I am related to him and may also show that for you.
Regards again

Betty,
I have just recently done the DNA sample and currently waiting on results. I should have them early January.
Are you aware of any GLYNN family trees that have been done or include some Glynn family ?
With RootsIreland, it is hard to see where to go in my case, she had a child to Thomas Nolan in 4 Novembr 1856 but I cannot find a marriage anywhere near that period, so it's possible they never stayed together. I have no idea what age either were as well. My feeling is that I have to locate some Glynn folks who may be aware of the past family history ?

Hi Fred,
It will be interesting to see your DNA results. Your Thomas Nolan would have been a contemporary of my great grandmother, Ellen Glynn. Her parents were Patrick Glynn and Bridget Ruane. Unfortunately, we know nothing of Patrick's or Bridget's parents or siblings. There is an intriguing Catherine Glynn who married a Michael Ruane. I believe they also lived on Bolands Lane but I haven't been able to tie them to my Glynns or Ruanes.
Have you posted on the Ancestry message boards?

I did use the message board a long time ago, but not sure now who it was for. Need to start again.
I saw this discussion about the Glynn folks and hoped I could join in. I don't mean to steal Cathy Pucke's original thread. I've found the more broader discussions get, you may observe a lead. One would think that the Glynns of Gort or nearby are probably all related ? Any clues as to the Witness name Mary Rourke ... could she be a Glynn now married perhaps ?
When I get my DNA results, can it tell me something about the Glynn's through possible matches ? I'm not familiar with this system at all, I just did it.

Hi Fred
I believe there are several families in Gort, they may not all be related but probably a higher probability that the ones living on the same lane are. Boland's lane is quite a small street. If you come up as related to me and the Glynn from Gort that has tested, it would mean your Catherine came from the same family-it may not tell you anything more than that.

Hello Betty
Have you seen the Parish Register for Gort at all ?
I notice a lot of Glynn's in this register, I see one for Patrick and Celia as well as Patrick Glynn and Bridget Ruane where their son John was born & baptised: http://registers.nli.ie/pages/vtls000634165_048
I have the Ancestry results now too by the way.

Hi All,
I would like help with my great great grandfather Martin Carr, and his wife Bridget (Essy ) Quinn Carr. I have not been able to find a death date for
either one of them. They lived in Ballymulfaigh, but i believe the parish was Kilmacduagh. Would also like to know if anyone has any other
information about them. I have looked for a long time now.In 1882 Martin was crossed out of the farm and John put in.
appreciate any help in this matter.
Doreen.
