I am looking for information regarding my Great Great Grandmother, Honora Moore, who may have been born about 1843 in Cashel, Connacht, Galway Ireland.  There is also speculation that she may have been born in Cashel, Donegal or Tipperary.  I would appreciate any help provided!

*Note: On 19 May 1870, Honora Moore married John Collins (from Pollshask) in the parish of Glenamaddy, Galway.  Their children, all born in Pollshask, were Bridget, Hugh, Mary, Margaret, Thomas, and Honor (Nora).  They may also have had a daughter named Delia.

I'm sure Honora Moore came from cashel townland, Boyounagh civil parish which is the same civil parish as Glennamaddy.

The records for Glennamaddy RC parish go back to 1839 but currently Roots Ireland does not have those records online. Civil registration did not start until 1864.Below are thr 1901 and 1911 cenus records for the family. Looks like Honora died between 1901 and 1911. Also, Bridget and Delia are likely the smae person.

Below is the civil marriage index record for John and Honora. You can get a copy of the record for around 4 euros from the General Register Office. The record will show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where they were living in 1870. If you plan on getting a copy let me know and I will forward instructions.

  • Roger,

Thank you for the very helpful information.   I am researching the Collins family also.  Delia is a puzzle. Can't find her in the Ireland birth records but her name is on a ship's manifest and in the US Census records.  I'm curious as to why you think she and Bridget may be the same person?

  • Castlemore Roscommon:  Thank you so much for your comprehensive and interesting reply, the Census links, and the extracts of records that you provided.  My cousin, who has also replied to you, was able to acquire the marriage info for John Collins and Honora Moore from another pay-as-you-go website.  Live long and prosper!
