I am researching the descendants of Henry Kenny (born abt 1810) and his wife, a Miss Horsman. I don't know her first name. Henry Kenny's parents were Henry Kenny and Sarah Geraghty according to a family cousin who has no further information. Can anybody help? The family appear to be Church of Ireland hence the difficulty wth no church records. Might they have been Roman Catholic and then changed religion? As far as I know Henry Jnr had 4 sons Henry, Richard, Thomas and John. I have the research for 3 sons. Not John. Getting back further is proving very difficult.

Anna Jane:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
According to this link, most of the 19th century registers for Clonfert C of I church were lost in the 1922 Public Records fire. Roots Ireland shows they have records for 1884-1894.

Hi Anna Jane, from Australia.
My ancestors from around Eyrecourt were Feeney or Feeny, & Catholic. So I've often wondered if may have been mistakenly written as Kenny at times. I think the same surname for a C of I family near Eyrecourt is Finney, so for emigration reference for Feeney, the C of I Minister has spelt the surname the later way. The history of Eyre & Eyrecourt will show u why there were a lot of C of I there compared to western side of Co. Galway.
I'm no expert in Irish history, but doubt your family would have changed religion in early 1800s; no compelling reason to change I think. 1830s were Tithe wars & that created records of people not paying Tithes, all presumably Catholics objecting to paying C of I Minister. Also Catholic records mightn't exist for when your Henry was born; it was illegal to be a Catholic in Ireland back then, although that law was largley ignored & registers exist for more populous Parishes.
I've seen a Horsman family tree from Eyrecouronline, a big family: I presume you have noticed Ed Horsman is local miller in 1846 Slater's Directory. Maybe someone researching that tree might know First Name of Henry's wife.
Cheers, Ron

Anna Jane. I checked out some old paper work of what people told me. Edward James Horsman born 14 Nov 1815, or c.1823, a miller in Eyrecourt in 1845, arrived Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on 24 Sep 1872, after his wife died 9 April 1866. He died 3 April 1902 in Albury, Australia. He had married Kate Hipwell 13 July 1847 in Annatrim, Offally.
Generation after you looking for, so not much help sorry.

Thank you for all the help. I am going to contact people who have put up Horsman Family Tree info online and you never know I might strike gold!

I know this is an old post but I do have information of John Kenny.
The family was Church of Ireland and continued to intermarry with other protestant families in the area for a number of generations. John Kenny married Jane Susan Finney the daughter of Richard Finney and Frances Browne who had married at St James C of I in Dublin on 1 Nov 1794. The family moved to Eyrecourt, Clonfert, Galway where Jane Susan Finney was born c1803. I have the following children for John:
1. Henry Kenny b. c1825 Co. Galway d. 6 May 1870 Lismore House, Laurencetown, Co. Galway
2. Sarah Kenny b. c1828 Co. Galway m. James Johnston (7 known children) d. 14 Jul 1874 Fohanagh House, Clonbrook, Co. Galway age 46
3. Frances "Fanny" Kenny b. 1830 Lismore House, Earlscourt, Co. Galway m. John Bailey 18 Oct 1854 Melbourne Australia (5 known children) d. 1 Nov 1875 Tasmania, Australia
4. Richard Kenny b. c1832 Co. Galway d. 1897 Mountbellew, Co Galway age 65
5. John Kenny b. c1834 Co. Galway d. 1905 Castlereagh age 71
6. Thomas Kenny b. c1837 Co. Galway m. sarah Kenny d. of Thomas Kenny and Miss Horseman and had a son also Thomas. Maybe this is wrong and she was a daughter of Henry and Miss Horseman as I can't find my source for this. I think it was Tom Johnston who did a lot of research into the Kenny and Johnston families as well as the Finney's and related families (all the protestant families seemed to intermarry).
7. Susan Kenny b. c1839 Co. Galway m. John Johnstone (son of Samuel Johnston and Mary A Duffy) on 28 Apr 1858 d. 18 Oct 1874 Smith Park, Ahascragh, Clonbrock, Co. Galway, Ireland
8. George Kenny b. c1840 Co. Galway m. Frances Fitzroy 1 Jun 1875 Church of Moystown, Co. Offaly
9. Stephen Kenny b. c1852 Co. Galway d. 11 May 1880 Ballinasloe age 28
John Kenny died in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway in 1877. Jane Susan Finney died Lismore House, Laurencetown 18 Mar 1881.
John Kenny's sister Anne married Robert Finney with children Thomas (1831), Frances (1838), Richard Noble (1839), Mary Anne (1841), Robert (1842) and Sarah Jane (1843).
