Demonstration & Conservation Talks taking place in Portumna Castle this weekend
On Sat 7th & Sun 8th May from 10am to 5pm daily.
Admission is free. No booking is required.
Take the opportunity to:
• Watch over two dozen craftspeople demonstrate key traditional building skills needed for the conservation of old buildings including: sash window repairs; stained glass & fanlight conservation; stone carving; dry stonewall construction; use of lime based mortars; decorative plasterwork; ironwork; slate roofing; mud wall construction; thatching; and furniture and clock restoration to name a few.
• Listen to informative and interactive talks on old buildings: their history, maintenance and repair.
• Engage one-to-one with your Council’s Conservation Officer to ask about the management and care of your old building.
• Gather information on protected structure planning law, insurance, finance and related topics.
• Talk to representatives at the information stands: Association of Architectural Conservation Officers, Building Limes Forum; Galway County Council; Galway Heritage Forum; Heritage Contractors; Irish Georgian Society; and Irish Horological Craft Forum.
