Looking for relatives of Bridget McCabe and Martin Munroe (Mulroe) who were married in Donaghpatrick Parish in 1864 and left for Wilmington, Delaware one at a time between 1974 and 1876.

We know Martin had brothers who also came to the United States but Bridget is believed to have been an orphan who was raised by an uncle. Martin and Bridget had three children born in Galway, Mary Elizabeth, William and Patrick Frank and five born in Wilmington, Delaware: Margatet (Maggie), Michael John, Catherine (Kate), Sarah (Sadie) and Martin.

We are looking for likely relatives who might want to have their DNA tested by Family Tree DNA. We have found one relative who left for the UK. I could write more if I consult previous emails but this is just a bit in case someone is out there trying to connect.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Have you loaded your raw DNA data to www.gedmatch.com?  Gedmatch is a volunteer run site which allows you to upload your data and see if you match with someone who tested with Ancestry or 23 and Me (and also loaded their DNA data to Gedmatch).

Let me know if you have questions.

  • Roger, I am interested in sponsoring some DNA testing. My cousin is a direct female desendent of Bridget McCabe and we are running out of ideas. We have both loaded our Family Tree DNA testing into Gedmatch.

I hope you are still involved, sorry my replay was so delayed. I have moved since I last signed in.

  • John:

I'm still here. Here is a link to the online Irish phone book which is only a partial list of phone users http://www.eirphonebook.ie/#   If you search for Mccabe in County Galway, you will see a McCabe near Caherlistrane which is your area. Make sure you use the Residential Tab. (Our privacy rules prevent me from giving you personal info directly). Why don't you write him a letter and see if he would be willing to test.

  • My cousin is a direct female to female chain to Bridget McCabe, so I will be looking for a woman who is also a McCabe. We know that Bridget was not living with her parents but was sent to live with family when she met my great grandfather and were married in Donaghpatrick parish. We have a copy of the marriage record. My cousin had done the most searching. But if we had more mtDNA data from the area maybe we would find a direct relative. Your idea about the phone book is good. I will let you know what Sheila thinks.

  • Dear Jim,

I just saw your message a few minutes ago. I am just getting ready for work but will respond in greater length this weekend.

I am copying my cousin Sheila who had done the bulk of our investigation into our family origins. She is a direct female to female descendant of Bridget McCabe.

Thank you so much for your interest and standby, I am very interested in communicating with you in much more depth.
