Hello all, many signs point to my great great great grandparents Anna Colohan and Patrick McDermott being part of the Colohans and McDermotts of Clontuskert. Here's what we have evidence of: Anna Colohan, b. 1828, Co. Galway; Patrick McDermott, b. 1820, Co. Cork; emigrated to US in 1849 on the Chesapeake, arriving in Baltimore, moving to the Pittsburgh area, then Cincinnati, then Indiana, then Louisville, Kentucky. I've read the book "Glimpses of the Past" from the Clontuskert Heritage Group, and I'm particularly interested in Anne/Jack Colohan & their only surviving child, also named Anne mentioned on page 227, in the Pollak of Lismanny chapter. I would love to know more of the evidence of the story to see if there are more clues that could be helpful in my ancestral search. Unfortunately, the email address for the Clontuskert Heritage Group no longer works. Does anyone have information related to Anne & Jack? Or my Anna & Patrick? Or how I could be in touch with the Clontuskert Heritage Group?
I was able to visit the church in Clontuskert briefly this summer and was so moved to find the graves of so many Colohans and McDermotts. I hope to keep connecting the dots to the side of our story back in Ireland!
Thank you so much, ACRC

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out
Have you tried to reach the group on this email address: info@clontuskert.com
It is the one listed on their web page: http://www.clontuskert.com/index.html
The group might (as many heritage groups who have recently published a local publication) have additional info that didn't make it into the hardcopy. Some groups retain that info in the hopes of adding it to a website or blog later on. If you don't hear back let me know and we can find a different way to reach them.
Best wishes

Hello, I am a Colohan descendant and my grandmother was Elizabeth Colohan, one of 8 children born to John Colohan and Louisa Carey. My grandmother was no 7 to die in 1997 and her sister Kathleen known as Kitty died about 2002-2004. There is a Colohan plot at the ruins of Clontuskert Abbey on the main road from the cottage in Lismany to Ballinasloe where my mother is also placed though we live in England. I spent many holidays visiting my grandmother and have many happy memories in Lismany and later at the other house in Ballymana which was only the next house along, Not sure how far you have with the Colohan family tree but I hope you can see a connection. Kind regards Jo

Thanks, Clare and Jo. The email for the CHG bounced back to me, unfortunately. They do not seem to have a facebook group. Would love any suggestions about tracking them down! Jo--I will update if I find anything that connects us!
