Higgins of Clonbur
I have been researching my family history for some years now and have reached stalemate, particularly re my Higgins roots. From BDM records my Gx2 grandfather Michael Higgins was born c 1805 to 2/5/1881) in Clonbur area . He married Catherine Kearns {1817-21/7/1872} ( from Westport) and had 5 surviving children - Patrick Higgins 1830-1895 , Honoria 1840-20/12/1916, James 1845 -16/2/1890,Delia Bridget 1847-7/11/1916 and Eleanor Higgins 1849 -20/9/1882 .Honoria married John Casey 1846 - ??( Co Roscommon) in Clonbur and had 3 children Michael Martin who died at birth, Cecelia Casey ( unwed) died in Galway 1950's, Mary Kate Casey d 1939 who wed Thomas Cahill d 1924( of Tonamace Annaghdown)and had 3 daughter & 1 son. Her eldest daughter Mary Marcella 1905-1973 married Edward Haverty 1895-1968 ( Kilchreest, Loughrea) - who are my parents .
From my searches in Rosshill Cemetery Catherine Higgins nee Kearns lies in plot 485 beside the plot which contains her brother-in-law - Patrick brother of Michael. Patrick married Catherines sister and she is mentioned on his grave slab ! My quest is to find the family mentioned on Patricks headstone.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I take it you don't have a the marriage details of Michael and Catherine?
Best wishes

Sorry - no I always presumed that Catherine would have got wed in her own parish Westport ? From an old map of the area I came across a mention of " Higgins House" on the shores of Lough Corrib heading towards Cornamona. However in my physical searches some years ago I could not find any trace of a ruin

Hi again
Yes, more than likely they would have married in the home parish of the bride. If the records existed they will be readily available on rootsireland.ie. Gaps for marriages seem to happen between 1857 and 1859 for Westport (Oighaval) parish. As this is something you have looked at already it might be a question of them marrying there and the entry not making it into the register or marrying elsewhere.
Best wishes
