I am trying to do my family tree. My grandmother was Mary Lowry from Mahanagh, born approx 1890, married my grandfather Benjamin Rourke(Rorke or Roarke) from Brierfield Toole in 1919. Her parents (my great grandfather) was John Lowry from Mahanagh born approx 1856  and Mary Collins (my great grandmother) born approx 1860. They were married approx 1879. Their children were Bridget, John, Michael, Mary, Lawrence, Nora & Delia. I am now tring to find the names of their parents (my great great grandparents). Can anyone help?

Here is the civil marriage index record for the 1879 marriage between john and Mary. The actual record will show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where the bride and groom lived in 1879. You can get a copy for around 4 euros from the general Register Office. Let me know if you want to get a copy and I will forward instructions.

Roots Ireland only has Clonbern records starting in 1892 but a reference book I have indicates that Clonbern records go back to 1855.

This summer the National Library plans to place the RC parish registers online for free searching. You may be able to locate the baptismal records for John and Mary at that time.

Sorry I did not respond to you earlier. I must have missed your request for instructions and Clare was covering for me. However, I assume you only want a copy of the record  for aroun d 4 euros rather than the 20 euro cert. To get a copy you go to this link

    https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

print out the marriage form, fill it out to the best of your ability, add the info from the index record: quarter/year of marriage, registration district and volume and page number.

You have to use snail mail to send the request to GRO in Co. Roscommon but you can ask GRO to e-mail the copy back.
