The Clifden RC records start in 1838 for baptisms. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/1046   I searched on Roots Ireland from 1838-1846 and there was no Thomas Hughes baptismal record in Clifden/Omey parish. You may want to review the parish register to make sure that Roots  did not miss the record for your Thomas.

Hey Roger. Thank you for looking on Roots.ie that was kind of you. I have searched the parish registers for Clifden and Inishbofin too ... just in case he came from the Island. No worries I wont give up! :-)
