Hello,

I am looking for information on my Great-Grandfather, John FLYNN, possibly born Apr. 22, 1838 in Bullaun, Galway, Ireland. I think his father’s name was Bryan, but the Apr. 1838 Church Baptism lists his father as Bernard, it could easily be a mistake. I have found Bryan Flynn in Griffith's Valuation as living in Bellayarha South, Bullaun, Galway.

I found a 31 Jan. 1834 Bullaun/Grange Church Marriage of Bernard Flynn and Mary Kelly on RootsIreland.ie. The father's first names were not recorded and neither mother's name was listed. The witnesses were Timothy Moran and Mary Moran.

I found a Church Baptism for a daughter Cecilia was born 09 Sep. 1835 in Bullaun with Bernard Flynnand Mary Kelly listed as parents. The only Sponsor is Mary Dolphin.

He married Anne CAHILL, who was possibly born either on  Aug. 15, 1848 or May 18, 1849 in Bullaun, Galway,  they wed on Jan. 13, 1868 in Danesfort, Loughrea, Galway near Bullaun.. I believe that her parents were John Cahill and Anna O’Brien (from her Death Certificate). Ann Cahill Flynn died Nov. 5, 1916 in Manchester, NH.

They immigrated to New York and lived for a time in Milo and Dundee, NY. The Family moved to Manchester, NH sometime around the 1890’s.

They had 9 children:
Mary born Nov. 13, 1868 in Bullaun, Galway

The rest of the children were born in Dundee, NY:

Anna born Dec. 1871 married Michael Badger
Margaret G. born Oct. 8, 1874, married Michael Treacy, died 1951, in MA
Elizabeth (Lizzie) born Mar. 1876 married Patrick Leahy

Delia born Jul. 8, 1878, married John McGranaghan, died 1963 in NH
Thomas J. born Sep. 1879 married Anna Shea, died 1979
John Harry  Mar. 1882-1964
Edward P. born Mar. 4, 1884, married Anna Rossiter, he died May 26, 1914 in NH
Cecelia T (Tessie) born Feb, 1886 married Thomas Furlong, she died in 1968
Laurena born Sep. 1888

The Family story is that John left the Family around 1890 and moved back to Ireland. I am looking for any records of him or his forebears in Ireland.

I know it is a long shot without more information.

Thanks

  • Cynthia,

Thanks for the links to the genealogy sites.

Because John Flynn left his family in the USA and returned to Ireland about 1890, I really do not have more information on him.

Through searching various websites, I found his marriage date and some probably Irish relatives, but there is no one alive in my family who knows what happened to him after he returned to Ireland.

I am having better luck finding information with my father's Irish relatives.

    Thanks again,

    jjtjr
