I believe she used the catholic parish records but know Catholics were not allowed to keep records until mid 1860s.all of the john Lydons children we're born 1870 to 1885 so they would have church records.
that date for Michael would work as the only dates I have fur Other Lydon children who settled in Marcellus NY are 1840 fur Catherine my 2nd great grandmother, 1842 for the john i mentioned, 1843 for Patrick Jr and 1851 for Jane Lydon Thornton.
maybe they moved although Moycullen is quite a way from ballynakill parish!

the Patrick Walsh make is interesting as Catherine Lydons husband Tadgh Coyne' s mother was Ellen Walsh and several of the Walsh line came to Marcellus also but make changed to Welch but it fluctuated. Catherine and Tadgh first child born a few months after they came over, Mary Ann had Austin Walsh and wife Margaret (O'Malley) as godparents. Austin was listed as Welch in censuses.

The Letterfreck is Letterfrack, Ungwee is a townland between it and Moyard. The whole parish  is called Ballynakill also called Ballinakill and not to be confused with the parish of the same name in east Galway.

Moycullen is over 40 miles away and its unlikely that that people referred there have any connection with Moyard. Lyden or Lydon, Coyne sometimes Kyne and Thornton are common surnanes in Connemara.

If calling to the area advise you to call to the post office in Moyard as they would have a good knowledge of local people and places

Just left Galway from week long visit. we went to see Ross Townland where my 2nd great grandfather Taghd Coyne rented a plot of land for farming. they rented a house in Townland of Tievegarriff right nearby but sadly Tievegarriff is no more and few even recall the name! I find a rut road going to where Tievegarriff was not out is now just am overgrown field full of yes and large brushes!
the beach area of Ross along the harbour of Ballynakill was beautiful and amid the often harsh but beautiful landscape of Galway I was happy tyke had such beauty to look at in everyday life!
A man we met there told us they're was once a large village in Ross that disappeared after the famine and there was a colony of over 100 people living on an island in the harbor that was aosp decimated by the famine.
naturally just as we were checking out today from Maol Reidh hotel in Tullycross, Mary on the desk mentioned there was an old cemetery in Ross which i think we passed while following the man from the beach to meet a James Coyne. Mary said it dated back to the famine era and many graves from that time has no names making who they were.
does anyone know the name of this cemetery and where/ who might have info on it?

thanx Oz, it WAS quite an adventure in a beautiful place. sadly there was no one 170 years old who remembered my family! haha. Much of the whole next generation was lost after the famine from death or migration so the connecting tissues are gone. i thought it sad their story ended in Ireland when they left but then realized that their story and OURS continued in a new country. i know there must be Lydon relations still there as my 2nd great grandmother Catherine Lydon had two brothers, Michael and John who stayed in Ireland who had families. i don't know about "Michael (above) but someone here kindly found John's wife and eight daughters for me so there are likely cousins around but would be hard to find!

NEW discovery!
Over the past week we found that 3 of the daughters of the john lydon married to "Honor " Corbett (appears actually to be "Honora" came to Syracuse NY where i live, married and died here. Then a couple days ago i found a fourth.
all the marriage records here list the correct parents as John and "Nora" for Bridget, Mary Jane , Anna and now "Nora" lydon coming here
I found anna and nora Arrived in 1901 which fits with a newspaper social note i found years ago from 1903 dating Annie Lydon from Ireland was in Marcellus NY visiting her aunts Mrs. Catherine Coyne (my 2nd great grandmother) and mrs Jane Thornton (Catherine's sister). i had thought she was just visiting!
I found all their obits and 3 of the 4 list a surviving sister Mrs. James Joyce of Ireland (Catherine Lydon)
Bridget lydon Lavelle died in 1948 mary Jane lydon Mullen died in 1950, honora "Nora" Lydon Linehan died im 1960 and Anna lydon Flannery died in 1980 at 98! Anna's obit didn't list the surviving sister Catherine Lydon Joyce so she must have died between 1960 and 1980 in Ireland. All were likely born in Ungwee, Ballynakill where John Lydon died in 1936 and his wife Honor Corbett died in 1933
So great to find more family coming to this area!
