Hello Everyone,
I"m attempting to trace my Joyce Family outside of Ireland and I have some questions if this might be the correct parish. I am trying to find information on a John Joyce and/or Thomas Joyce that might have left for the American colonies in the early 1700's. I don't a paper trail, however, I do have a Joyce Y-DNA relative in Ireland. I also have a Y-DNA relative who can trace thier Joss (Joyce) heritage back to Scotland in the early 1700's as well.
As far as I can see, my Joyce ether came from Irealnd or Ulster(first from Scotland) but I have never heard of Joyce as a common name in Ulster? Any advice?
thanks much,
David

Hello Clare,
Thanks for your assistance :} I apprecite it. I do have an update that may be of some importantance. I have discovered two colonial Irish families that may be linked to my early joyces. A John Joyce that came to Norfolk, VA, in the ealry 1600's (not sure the precise date) and an Abraham Joyce that came to Northumblerland County, Va, around 1655.
In addition, I may have found Abraham Joyce DNA within my own results as well.
The part that is puzzling is that Alexander one of my first known Joyces was a Presbyterian Elder. Could a Joyce have been a Presbterian in southern Ireland?

Hi David
While our volunteer gets back to you, this website is interesting and the blog is also useful:

Thanks, I'll check it out :} I'm not sure if this helps, but I just discoved that Alexander was a business partner. I heard that most Presybterians during that time period were wealthy.

Hi David
I suppose that for those who were in the minority, often times close ties were made in business and other parts of life.
If you don't hear from our volunteer over the next week, could you email me at cdoyle@irelandxo.com
Thanks
