Through various nineteenth century official records, I am certain that my family is from County Galway. However, the only piece of information that I have that identifies where they might have lived within the county is knowledge of the name Ballindoon that was handwritten in a family bible. So, because thus far I find nothing else that supports a claim to Ballindoon Parish, it is the only lead I have.
My great great grandparents Thomas Dolan and Mary (Kelly) and family which included my great grandfather John Dolan immigrated to Wisconsin, U S A in about 1848.
If in time anyone else knows or learns of a Dolan family connection to Ballindoon Parish, I would very much appreciate hearing about it. Thanks to all in advance.

Hi there,
Thank you very mcuh for your query. Having a locality, especially one narrowed down to a parish is excellent news! There is a good chance when it has been written down in a family bible that the place held some special significance, making this a great place to start looking. Have you check any birth or marriage certificates for the names you mentioned? You could also try looking for land records, such as found in Griffiths Valuation (1848-64) or the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38). You at least have some names and a place to check now, so it will really help to narrow down the records. Another area to try researching are the passenger lists. You usually find that records were made at the place of arrival rather than departure.
In the meantime, keep checking the IRO website. The local community of Ballindoon might be able to shed some more light for you.
Kind regards,

Hello Dolan Connection,
This may indeed be a stretch but I will "put it out there". My great grandmother, Catherine (Kate) Dolan was married to Bernard Loonam on 20 Sep. 1870 in Banager, Ireland. Her father was James (Jacob) Dolan of Galway, Ireland born about 1823. I believed he died in April 1918 in Mayo, Ireland but Irish records are sketchy, at best. If this looks interesting to you, let me know.

David,
Your reply is appreciated. Unfortunately, I do not know anything about your County Galway
Dolans. The given names Jacob, James and Catherine are not notable in my branch of the family. It's nice to know somebody is looking though.
All the best,
Pat Dolan
