I am searching for gggrandfather, James Kenny, born in 1824; my ggggrandfather, James Kenny, born in 1802. I have always been told they were County Clare but find there is a family from Ballinakill, County Galway with all the right dates and names.  It isn't far between the two locations (55 km) or 34 miles. How do I find out if the people I have found are my Kenny family? I hate to just grab onto them because they fit the dates and approximate location. This is the closest I have come to finding a town and birthdates of a whole family and I am cautiously excited.

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

  • Thank you Col.  The records for 1824 James Kenny should be in County Clare.  Unfortunuately, they are no longer available. James Kenny 1802 was born in Galway but his wife was from Feakle, just over the county line in Clare.  I can only assume they moved to Clare after marrying and their children were born in Clare.  I have been searching for a long time and hope this is the connection I have been looking and this is my family line.

My question is:  how do I verify this is the right Kenny family?

    Thank you, Sharon

  • Sorry I don't know how you prove these are yours other than by noone else claiming them or DNA testing

  • Hello,

It has been a while since I have been back on the site. Are there any new discoveries for the Kenny's?  I'd love to know if there are any Kenny's still in the area, is it appropriate to try to find them? Is it best to write letters? Is there someone local who would know who to contact? Any help you can offer, I appreciate deeply.   Sharon
