Hello,
I am trying to locate the hometown of my Great Great Grandfather Patrick Scully. I know he emigrated to the United States (Boston, Mass) prior to 1855. I believe he departed Ireland on Nov 20 1854 abord the ship "North America" arriving in Boston on Nov 27 1854 however i cannot definately prove this. I believe he was born around 1835, he was listed as 19 on the passenger list and 20 on the Mass Census in 1855. He also listed his Parents as Patrick and Bridget. and had a sister named Catherine. I have not been able to locate anything beyond the County he was from (Galway) which is listed on his tombstone. We were able to find a Patrick Scully in Derrybrien on Griffith Valuation with many common surnames of people he lived with and associated with here in the states. Any assistance you can provide us with would be greatly appreciated

The RC baptismal records for the parish of Ballynakill and Derrybrien are not online at present on Roots Ireland. Later this summer the national Library of Ireland plans to place all RC parish registers online for free searching. I would check out Ballinakiil/Derrybrien at that time.
On the premise, that your Patrick came from a different area of Galway, I did a search on Roots. There is an 1837 Patrick Scully baptismal record in 1837 at St. Nicholas church in Galway city. The parents were Patrick and Bridget. I would treat this record as another lead.

Roger,
Thank you so much for your time and the lead we will certainly follow that up to see if we can make a connection. I will also randomly check the Library of Ireland for thier upcoming products. We are planning a trip to Galway in the fall of this year and would love to have the opportunity to hear mass in the church of my forefather. If you are in that area i would love to shake your hand and offer my thanks in person.
