I am trying to locate my Grandfather's family. His name is Patrick Breheny. His siblings are Martin, Mary and Bridie. The locations I have are Rushestown, Toomard, Ballinesloe and Galway. Any information anyone has would be much appreciated. Thank you - Mary Ellen McGinness

Hi Mary
There are birth/baptism records for Breheny + all 4 first names on rootsireland.ie/
If you can provide an approximate birth year for one or more of them it would be a big help.

Mary Ellen:
I found a Breheny family in the 1901 census which could be Patrick's family. I also included the 1911 census and Patrick was not there so I'm assuming he emigrated in the period between the two censuses. The 1911 census indicates a total of 5 children. I also found an 1878 civil marriage index record which could be for Martin and Margaret. Looks like her maiden name was Kenny. You can get a copy of the marriage record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. It would show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where the bride and groom were living in 1878.
Let me know if you have questions or want instructions for getting a copy of the record.

Hi Mary Ellen,
I wanted to let you know that I knew a Mary, Martin and Bridie Behony who lived in Rushestown up until about 10 years ago but sadly they have all passed away since in the local nursing home in Mountbellew. They were good friends and nieghbours of my dad (Patrick J Kenny) and his family. They also had a sister Ellie.
My dad talked about a Brehony uncle emigrating to the USA?
Thanks,
Claire Kenny
