i noticed a search for Forde Knockbluffi. My maternal grandfather was Michael Forde, Knockbluff born sometime around 1890. His wife Mary, maiden name Forde came from near Claregalway I believe. Frank Gilmore

Forde, Shankill and Annaghdown/Knockbluff
Hi Frank,
Thanks for your message and apologies for the delay in replying. And thanks to Nita, who got there before me!
I have located the marriage record of Michael & Mary Forde (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1918/09705/5520551.pdf). It gives Michael's address as Annaghdown, and Mary's as Annagh West, the adjoining village. From the available records, I believe Michael was born in Shankill in April 1889, son of Patrick Forde and Ellen Duggan. Patrick was the son of Michael Forde and Ellen Newell. Ellen Duggan was the daughter of William Duggan and Mary Walsh of Waterdale, Claregalway.
If I am correct in this, it seems that Michael inherited the holding of the Connor family in Annaghdown/Knockbluff through his aunt Margaret Forde, who was married to Martin Connor.
Mary Forde was the daughter of Martin Forde and Bridget Long of Annagh West (Birth certificate: https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…).
All the best for now,
Paul.

Hi Frank I also have FORDE family from Annaghdown ( or at least my husband does) William Forde married Margaret Kane c 1820 and their daughter Bridget emigrated to New Zealand in 1860 where she married and settled. Bridget is my husbands gr gr grandmother. Maybe a connection but I do know there were other Forde families there so maybe not. cheers Patsy from NZ

Fordes of Annaghdown
Hi all,
There doesn't appear to be any recent connection between the Forde families of Shankill/Knockbluff and Lisheenanoran. Forde appears to have been the most common name in Annaghdown in the early 20th century so it can be difficult to disentangle the connections. DNA may help here of course!
All the best,
Paul.Annaghdown Parish
