Looking for info on my 3rd great grandparents, John (Mc)Cormick/(Mc)Cormack & Catherine "Kitty" Dwyer/Diver/Devir.
They were married in Addergoole Parish Feb 21 1852. John died between 1873 and 1901 census. Catherine is alive in 1901 census, living with two youngest known children, Thomas and Catherine. Know of 8 children that were born and grew up in Gortnaheltia, Newport District: Mary 1853, James 1856, Daniel 1858, John (I descend from) 1862, Mary 1864, Bridget 1867, Thomas 1870, Catherine 1873. In 1901, Catherine is listed as born about 1841, though her age is probably wrong by 5 or so years.
Looking for information on John McCormick Sr and Catherine Dwyer births and parents' names. Names associated with the children's baptisms (sponsors) are: John Marley, & Bridget Marley, Franck Cormack & Nancy Filbin, Frank McCormack & Nancy Diver. I assume Frank (Mc)Cormack is related somehow to John (Mc)Cormack, probably a brother? Nancy Filbin may also be Nancy Diver, and guessing would be a sister or sister-in-law to Catherine Dwyer/Diver?
Any information on the origins of John and Catherine, especially parent's names would be a huge help!
Thanks,
Christina

I just discovered Catherine Cormack and son Thomas in the 1911 census in Gortnaheltia. Catherine is listed as 78, which would put her year of birth about 1833 in Mayo. It lists they she had 8 children, and 8 is the number I've accounted for thus far, with 6 living. I suspect one of the deaths was Mary of 1853. Son Daniel died in 1911 in America but not until the end of the year, and son John was still living in America at the time and didn't die until 1935. This leaves the second Mary, James, Bridget, or Catherine as the other death in the family by 1911. The census lists number of years marriage has lasted = 30, which makes me suspect husband John may have died approximately 1881 (either as marriage in 1852 + 30 or widow in 1911 - 30).
Thanks,
Christina

Christina:
I looked at the Tithe Applotment books for Addergoole civil parish. These records are from the late 1820s or early 1830s.www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie
There were no McCormicks or McCormacks listed. However, I did find three Cormacks listed all in Ballytigue townland (spelling is Ballyteige now). James, Francis and Thomas. There were also two Divers in that townland.

Since the oldest son of Thomas and Catherine was James, it is likely that the grandfather was James.
I also checked the 1901 census for Ballyteige townland. www.census.nationalarchives.ie There were two Cormack families (one incorrectly shown as Carmack). Not sure of their relationship to your relatives.
