My great grandfather, possibly John Purcell, immigrated to the US during the potato famine. He settled in Schukill County Pennsylvania. He was married to Mary Purcell. Purcell was her maiden name. My grandfather ,Edward Purcell was born in Shenandoah Pennsylvania.

Hi Sally,
I sent this reply a while back regarding the Purcells. I'm not sure if you saw it or whether you found it to be way off the mark?
There is a Purcell family tree on ancestry which has an Edward Purcell listed as a child of Patrick and Mary Purcell.
Edward was born in September 1846 in Pennsylvania and died 17th June 1932.
He married Jane Fleming nd they had 11 children.
Patrick and mary were born in Ireland in 1832 and 1833 respectively.
There is a pay site which I looked at for the births of Patrick Purcell in 1832 and found two - one in Wicklow and one in Kilkenny.
I then searched for marriages for Patrick Purcell and Mary (no surname) - there were 5 in Wicklow (but I suspect it's the same one 5 times). The best fit seems to be Patrick Purcell who married Mary Keogh in Wicklow.
