Robert H. Gardiner, born circa 1802, County Fermanagh. Son of Wiliam Gardiner, born circa 1777, County Fermanagh.  Married circa 1825 to Margaret (Purcell?), aka Marjorie. Immigrated to Canada about 1826. She was born circa 1813?. Wondering if they left any family behind whose descendants are still living in Fermanagh.

It?s a common enough name in the Fermnagah area. There?s about 90 Gardiners/Gardners in the 1901 census for Fermanagh. And there are some in the modern phone book around Lisnaskea.

Do you know where in Fermanagh your family came from? (Otherwise it?s a bit of a needle in haystack).

Not many families in Ireland have done their family tree, and so the majority won?t know who their ancestors were in the early 1800s, so that may be a bit of a snag too.

  • I may be able to put you in touch with a man who might be able to help. Can you send me your email address?

  • Unfortunately I do not know where they resided in Fermanagh. Canada did not start keeping track of the people arriving from Europe, etc. until about 1850. The only thing showing on the Canadian Census is that he & his wife are from Fermanagh, Ireland. My cousin found an obituary, but no death certificate.

  • Thank you Bob.  Email is lzdldy@att.net. I believe William Gardiner was born about 1777 and was married to an Isabella Henderson around 1800. Thier son was Robert H. Gardiner. (May be spelled Gardner). I do not know for sure, but Robert may have had two brothers, and one sister.
