Alexander Duffy, his wife, Mary McGee and eight of their children arrived in Sydney in 1858 on "Stebonheath". Two older daughters, Ann and Catherine had arrived 2 years before as farm servants to George Grey in Kiama, New South Wales. They gave their hometown as Kesh.
What information can you find in Ireland about this family? Weare pleased with what we have found so far on Ancestry.com.au, and local historical information here in New South Wales, and now know a fair amount about their life in australia.

Dear John
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in replying to your message.
As you can see from the link below, Magheraculmoney is a Civil Parish in Co. Fermangah:
Church of Ireland records for that parish begin in 1767 while the records of the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Culmain/Magheraculmoney begin in 1836.
There are some places where you can search online, however these websites do not have complete collections and many do not cover the period after 1900:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ have begun a project to upload Irish church records to their site free of charge. However so far only Counties Dublin, Kerry, Carlow and parts of Cork have been covered.
You can search some Fermanagh Graveyard records here: http://www.from-ireland.net/county-fermanagh-genealogy/
Some other websites that may be helpful are:
The National Archives of Ireland: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/ - you can search the 1901/1911 Census on the National Archives page too
The National Library of Ireland: http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search:http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland: http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/index.htm
Irish Genealogy Tool kit: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/
Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Best of luck with your search

Dear John
This will not add further information about your family in Ireland but thought you might find the connection with my family interesting. My GGrandmother Elizabeth Scollen and her sister Ann arrived New South Wales in January 1864, They came from Kesh and were sponsored by your Alexander Duffy. Immigration Deposit Journals show he deposited 3 pounds for each sister on 12 January 1852. He was then living at Conjola where both girls settled with their families. Elizabeth married Patrick Egan, Ann married John Connolly. I think the families remained friends. Best of luck with your search. Maureen Glover, Qld.

Hi Maureen,
your reply certainly"pads out" out family story. There is a family connection , perhaps.
Alexander's wife was Mary McGee/Magee (spelling varies), Her parents were Felix McGee and Bessie Sculland. As we have found in our search, names are often spelt phonetically, often the speakers and the scribes do not know how to spell names. so i think , our Bessie Sculland could easily have been related to your Elizabeth Scollen, maybe Mary's cousin?
we haven't been able to verify this but we also think one of Mary McGee's brothers came to Australia, as in her funeral notice, mention is made of her sister-in-law, Mrs McGee.
We hope to find out more soon, as we are planning to visit Ireland this year. Family history is engrossing. Liz and John Ledbrook Forbes NSW

I would start with two sites - IGP which has church transcripts.
http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/fermanagh/
and second Fermanagh Gold
Fermanagh GOLD Members Genealogy Pages - Search
Both have a lot of Fermanagh records.
