I'm looking for any connections with my ggg grandfather, Bernard Carmichael, who was born in 1797 and lived in the parish of Aghalurcher. His father was James, a farmer, and his mother was called either Agnes or Ann Shiel. Bernard appears in the 1821 census fragment, when he was working as a weaver, living with his parents and siblings Francis, Owen, William, Michael and Sarah. He married a girl called Margaret Tierney and their first child was born in 1823. They had seven children in all and emigrated to Glasgow just after the youngest, Thomas, was born in 1835. I'd be most interested to hear from anyone who is connected to any of the other siblings, or who can throw any light on the Tierney or Shiel families, about whom I know nothing.

As you can see from the link below, Aghalurgher is a Civil Parish in Co. Fermanagh:
Church of Ireland records for the parish begin in 1867 while records for the corresponding Roman Catholic parish begin in 1835. As this is the case there will be no church records for James and his children.
You may have to consider undergoing an information gathering exercise as a way of getting as much information as possible about James and his family or indeed the family name in that area. You could try searching the Tithe Applotment Books and Griffith?s Valuation. Even though these sources only list the head of household, it can be useful information:
