My Great-Grandfather Richard Ennis and his brother Patrick Ennis (who also used the  alias Eiffe) were both transported to Port Arthur Tasmania 1852. Gaol reports give birthplace as Ballyboughal Bridge. Richard born around 1822-26 and Patrick around 1820-21. Parents were ?John and Margaret, sisters Margaret and Mary and brother John. Richard was married to Margaret Henderson (of Kildare) and had 2 children, Patrick was single.

I'd be very grateful if someone could help me find the baptism/birthdate of Richard and Patrick.

Thank you.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

Do you know what religion Richard and Patrick were?

Most Catholic records are held locally so it may be an idea to write to the parish priest for possible assistance. One website which you may find useful is the Irish Times website where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. Ballyboghill is part of the Roman Catholic parish of Naul. To see what records are available there follow this link:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Dublin&CityCounty=Dublin&parish=Naul&churchid=1145

For Parish details and addresses follow this link:

    http://www.dublindiocese.ie/guidebook/parish/156

For Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.  The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf

Have you tried searching some of the websites which have church records online?

One such website is Family Search. This is a huge database of genealogical records compiled by the Church of the Latter Day Saints. It includes births and baptisms from 1620-1880 (not complete) You can search their database here: www.familysearch.org

Another one is Roots Ireland, which contains nearly 12 million records of births, marriages and deaths. However please be aware that you have to pay to use this site. http://rootsireland.ie/

Another good website is http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html Both Catholic and Church of Ireland registers are currently being uploaded here free of charge. Only a few counties have be done yet, however Dublin is one of these so you may be able to find their records here.

You could also try contacting Swords Heritage Centre for assistance-a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:

    Swords Heritage Centre,

    Carnegie Library,

    North Street,

    Swords,

    Co. Dublin.

    Phone: +353 (0) 1 8400080        Email: swordsheritage@eircom.net

I hope that this is helpful.

    Kind regards,
