I have recently discovered that the roots of my husband's O'Hare family in Liverpool are in the Catholic Community of Warrenpoint Co Down. Michael O'Hare and Elizabrth McVey were married in Liverpool in 1871. They had several children including Thomas and Elizabeth whose children and grandchildren are thought to have visited the ancestral home in Co Down. I am anxious to verify that these people came from Warrenpoint and to trace any relevant baptismal certificates. Any relevant information would be very gratefully received.

  • Warrenpoint is in the RC parish of Clonallon. Their records start in 1826. Their baptisms (but not marriages) are on the rootsireland site (pay to view).

  • Eileen:

You may want to look at the 1901 and 1911 census records. www.census.nationalarchives.ie to see if you can locate family members.

Enter Warrenpoint in the DED field. In 1901, there were 40 O'Hares and 18 McVeighs. There were no McVeys.

Hello.  I have just joined this site and notice that you have done some research on the O'Hare and McVeigh families from Warrenpoint.

My paternal grandmother was Elizabeth O'Hare b.1880, daughter of Michael O'Hare and Elizabeth McVey (McVeigh).  Elizabeth married John Blanche in Liverpool in 1903.  My father, James Blanche was born in 1915.  My brother Peter Blanche has tried to research the families but has not been very successful  but we thought we would have another go!  Any information you could give me would be very much appreciated  thanks a lot.

  • Hello Barbara

I have just recently heard from your brother Peter via another chat site and am delighted to make contact. I thought any chance had disappeared into thin air! After such a long time, I need to go back to my notes and get my thoughts straight. I promise I will come back to you when I have had time to do this. You must both be related to my husband through these great grandparents. I am happy to provide contact details for you to use.

    Best wishes

Thank you so much Eileen. If it makes it easier for you, please communicate with Peter and he will share with me. It will save you having to write everything twice!  Thank you once again for your quick reply. It will be really interesting to see what we know about our respective relations.

    All the best

    Barbara
