I am looking for John Draney born around 1758 and Sarah Seaton born November 1777 - possibly in Scotland (not 100% sure about dates). They had one son named Henry Draney born 1792. They both died in Gifford, Down, Ireland.
This is the first time that I have tried to search out my ansestors. Draney does not even sound Irish to me. If anyone knows it's origin I would greatly appreciate the information.
Thank you!

These are my common ancestors as well. Last May I was able to view the Tullylish parish register there and did find the death records of their son Henry Draney and Mary Pentland Draney and also the birth of 4 of Henry and Mary's children and a few Pentlands.
I come through their son John Pentland Draney. Who do you come through? I noticed you are here in the USA.
I have done research for over 20 years. This past year I have devoted much time to this Draney/Pentland/Seaton line and sorry to say have not found much on them except some BMD certificates for some of the siblings at the FHL in SLC, Utah. There are no records to be found farther back than this John Draney/Sarah Seaton in Ireland. Unfortunatley most of the records were burned in the 1922 fire in Dublin unless someone can connect them coming from Scotland. Most Draneys from Scotland spell their name Drainie and are from the counties of Moray and Wigtonshire.
Tullylish is a beautiful area that they lived in. Their graves are not in the graveyard there.
The Draney name is not very prevalent in Ireland I have found and have also heard that they came from Scotland.
Even now in the phone book of Down, Ireland there are only a few Draneys. Two of them I met while over there, very nice people.

I was delighted to see someone, at last, who has consulted the Tullylish parish register. My interest is in the Pentland family and so far I have found the claims to have linked Mary Pentland to her paents and siblings far from convincing.
I have a considerable database of Irish Pentlands and would be keen to exchange information. I have not used this board before so if you are unable to pm me with a direct email address you will find mine in the "Board Information" for the Pentland name board on Rootsweb where i use this screen name as administrator for the board.
