Willaim Porter came to New Zealand in 1846 with the 58th Regiment. He had been working as a prison guard escorting prisoners from UK to Australia.

His regiment arrived in Auckland and was sent down to Wellington to assist the settlers with problems down there.

He eventually come back to Auckland and married Ellen (Helen) RICE1853, they had  six children including my great great grandmother Emma. Emma married Thomas Green in Auckland.in 1880.

Ellen died and William remarried on his second marraige certificate he has his father as Philip a nail maker from Dublin and his mother as Emma Jackson. 

William died in an accident in Auckland September 1902.
