Hi
I am looking for information relating to a Matilda Barr (born c1826), James Barr, her father (born c1800) who was a sergeant bandmaster in the 9th Regiment of Foot in 1848. Her husband Edward Shortt (born c1825) who was a private in the 9th Regiment of Foot in 1848 at the time of their marriage. They had a son William who was born in Newry, Co. Down (c1849). Whether or not this was because his parents were natives of Newry or if it was because their regiment was garrisoned there, I do not know. Matilda died in Wigan in 1891 at the home of her son William Shortt who was my maternal great grandfather. -
Thank you for getting back to me. I have forwarded your message onto one of volunteers who hopefully may be able to assist or advise you.
Kind regards,

Hello,
Edward Short(t) was my G G Grandfather and you may like to know that he has 7 G G Grandchildren, 20 G G G Grandchildren and 16 G G G G Grandchildren living in Australia. I have been searching all my life to find out about my relatives' and discovered this site today. It would be lovely if you would like to reply. I would love to know more about our family history. Bye for now. Jenny.

Hi Jenny,
If you have hit a brick wall it might also be good to consider DNA testing. Some of the male Shortt family from Tipperary have recently had a test and have had a match. We have also had a autosomal match on the same line.

Hi Jenny
It took me some time to get to this message. It was impossible from the email connection. I have sent a 'Friend request' on Facebook but it might not be yours. However, I've managed it now. First of all we need to establish that we share the same Edward Shortt. Mine was born about 1824 and married Matilda Barr in 1848 in Winchester, Hampshire, England and he was a private in the 9th Regiment of Foot.
If this is similar to your research, I will be dellighted to continue contacting you.
Kind regards.
