David and Mary Maxwell who owned a farm close to Corbett are my great grandparents - their son James is my grandfather and his son Thomas is my father. I am not sure who either of my great grandparents parents were and would like more information about Mary Maxwell. Also hoping to connect with family in Ireland.

I should add that David was born in 1854 and died in 1941. His wive Mary (Gillespie) was born in 1861 and died in 1940. They attended the Magherally Church but I am not sure where they were married. Thank you for any informaiton about my ancestors. Linda Mannix

There's a likely marriage for David and Mary 1881 in Lurgan registration district. A cert woudl show additional details - such as father's names & occupations, residences for the bride & groom, names of witnesses etc
You can order a research cert from GRO Roscommon (see option 1) costing 4 euro, or for a few credits you can view a transcript and/or image on the GRONI/NIDirect website. The GRONI index shows the marriage took place on the 23rd December 1881 in Craigavon sub-district. (Lurgan Registration District covered parts of counties Antrim, Armagh & Down. Craigavon is just to the west of the town of Lurgan)

Hi,
On Roots Ireland (subscription site) the marriage of Davis Maxwell to Mary Ellen Maxwell took place on the 24th December 1881. David's address is Mary's Market Townsend Street and Mary Ellen's address is Urney Street. Both are Presbyterian. Both are over 21 and David is listed as a Widower and Mary Ellen previously unmarried. David's father is John Maxwell - your g-g-grandfather and Mary Ellen's Father is Robert Maxwell - your other g-g-grandfather. Both John and Robert are listed as Labourers. Witnesses to the marriage were Irene and Agnes McDonald. The church was Clifton St Presbyterian.
Regards,
Fiona.

Thank you shanew147 and Fiona - so kind of you both to do some investigation on my behalf! Fiona - I am quite certain that the people that you have referenced are not my ancestors for several reasons. They were definitely Church of Ireland followers and my gg grandfather, I understand was a farmer - as we my g grandfather. I thank you again for your efforts. Shanew147, I will follow up on your info as the dates seem accurate as does the area. So often when I am researching ancestors from the 1800's, the marriage date is around Christmas. It can't be a coincidence I am sure - must have been an accepted time of folks being able to gather for a day or two. Thank you both again!
