Elwyn,

So what is the correct way to document the Martin's and Armstrong's residence?

Ballyward, County Down, Ireland, then

Ballyward, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom now?

or do I say

Ballyward, Banbridge, County Down then

Ballyward, Norther Ireland, United Kingdom now?

or is it Leitrem or Castlewellan?

Do I use the term Legananny at all?

I'd sure like ot know the correct way to talk about where my ancestors lived.

Thanks!

  • At the time that your ancestors lived there, the format would be townland, postal town and county. So for example Legananny, Castlewellan, Co Down. Ireland.

Today, it'd be Legananny Rd, Castlewellan, Co Down BT(and whatever the rest of the post code is). You would add UK if writing from overseas but not within the UK or Ireland.

Leitrim and Ballyward are separate townlands like Legananny.
