Hi I am trying to locate any info on my 6th great grandfather William Millikan Sr bor 6 Apr 1720 (at least we think this is the date...maybe it is a baptism or christening?) and arrived in Pennsylvania, United States before 1740 because he married Jane White. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. I am not sure if he was a quaker before coming to the U.S. or after he arrived. Thank you for any help!

  • Quakers in Ireland have records back to the 1600s when the denomination was first established. I don?t know whether there are any records for Dromore (or what the nearest Meeting House would have been). However the Provincial Headquarters was (and still is) in Lisburn and they often have duplicate copies of births, deaths and marriages, even when the original Meeting House?s records are lost.

The records are not on-line but there is a copy in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. A personal visit is required to access them, or you could write to the Lisburn branch and see if they will help.

If William was not a Quaker then finding any record of his baptism is likely to be impossible as no other denomination in Dromore has records going back to the 1720s.

  • Hi, I also am looking for more information on William Millikan Sr., as he is also my 6th great grandfather, father of my 5th great grandmother Mary Millikan Bratton. I have him being born 4-6-1720, passing on 12-23-1804. I have seemed to hit a dead end, so any help would be greatly appreciated! And hello long lost cousin. :) Have a great day, and Happy New Year!

  • Ahoghill Antrim, Thank you thank you!!! I will look at this site to see if I can locate him. It is my dream to go in person...but before I do this I want to find as much info out as I can. It would be wonderful if I could find long lost cousins on my search. Thanks again!

  • William Millikan is also amongst my ancestors; my family changed the spelling to Millican and we are in Texas. Would love to connect with Millikan cousins! "catkiselica" on Ancestry; I did have DNA testing.
