I am trying to trace my ancestry family tree, especially my Great Great Great Granddad Daniel Fagan to a Mary.  we know their son Hugh Fagan  from County Down married a Mary Smith from Harolds Cross Dublin in Nov 1847 in Newcastle upon tyne England.   We presume that Daniel & Mary married before 1818 when we think Hugh was born in Ireland. Any information regarding the family and its roots would be very helpful.  Thanking you in advance.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and thanks for your query.

You could begin your search by checking www.familysearch.org or www.rootsireland.ie (a subscription site) to see if you can find any record of your Fagan ancestors. You may be lucky and find a marriage record for Daniel and Mary. If their son was from Co. Down you could assume that his parents lived there, maybe married there, so you could search on that basis. Unfortunately as civil registration does not begin until 1864 (generally speaking) there will be no civil record of their marriage.

Best of luck with your search
