Hello:  I am researching my Irish ancestry and looking for information on the parents and family of Mary Anne Reid, born 1842 in Downpatrick, Down; she died in 1928 in Cumberland, England.  She married Richard Quinn, born 1841 in Castlewellan, Down, died 1919 Whitehaven, Cumberland, England.  They were married 1870 in Downpatrick.  They moved to Cumberland, England.  Their daughter, Catherine Quinn, born 1869 in Cumberland England, died 1929 in Fernie, British Columbia, Canada, was my great grandmother.

  • Robyn,

I provided a link to the Quinn-Reid marriage on your previous enquiry about Richard Quinn.

Downpatrick RC parish only has baptism records from 1852 onwards so if Mary Ann was born there in the 1840s there will probably be no record of it. We know her father was still alive in 1870 from her marriage certificate as it specifically states that. I searched the statutory death records for Daniel Reid in the Downpatrick area 1870 to 1921. There was just 1. He died on 1.1.1875 aged 60. You can view the original certificate on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:

    https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk

You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.

I searched on rootsireland for possible Reid siblings marriages in Co. Down 1864 – 1900 but did not find any.

  • Dear Elwyn, Thank you so very much for the insights!  I have some more family members from another branch that I will be sending inquiries after.  Please let me know if this message board is the appropriate way to do do.   Thanks again, Robyn

  • Robyn,

If it's a separate fmaily then put the query in a seperate message. If you know the parish then put it on the parish board. If you are unsure of the parish, put it on the county board instead.
