Margaret:
I looked for John Brown in the 1901 census and could not locate him in the Newtownards area. I also did not locate Catherine. ( I did find James Brown's family (possibly)). James was not there.

I then looked for a civil death index record for John Brown prior to 1901. The best fit based on an 1848 year of birth was this record in 1876 which was around the time of George's birth. Is it possible that he ded at age 28? I also located a possible death index record for Catherine. Let me know what you think of these records.

Hi Margaret
I am wondering if we may not share some common ancestors. My great grandfather was James Alexander Brown from Newtownards and I think he was born around 1846 ish and I think I have found his parents John Alexander and Margaret Boden who married 16th August 1845. Johns father was James Brown, a farmer James Alexander married his first wife Mary Anne Watters who's father was a minister of the Presbyterian church in Newtownards ...could have been the 2nd ..would need to look it up.Was wondering if your John might be a brother of my James as the dates are around the same times and similar marriage dates.Further more John and James regularly appear in my side. James Alexander's second son was John. his first son was Thomas, after his mothers father and he also called his first son James. Would be interested to hear what you think
Cheers
Andrea
