Hello

I would like to contact any relatives of James Browne of Quigley's Point, Upper Moville, Donegal. I have questions about his marriage to Fanny McCrossan and their children.

Thank you

  • Thank you Patricia

Even though I headed my message as James Browne, my real interest is in my great-great-grandmother, Mary Browne. I think her parents were James Browne and Fanny MCrossan and I am hoping to establish that. I live in Australia and all of my grandparents were Irish immigrants. I am trying to find information (that I highly suspect) linking Mary with James Browne and Fanny McCrossan.

I will get a document prepared in the next day or so with some relevant dates and details on Mary that I know. (And I will attempt to attach it to my next message).

    Hi Patricia

I have attached a 1-page chart (sorry if it is a bit complicated) of what I believe to be the Brown[e] and Bradley families that make up my “Mary Brown[e]” query.

My query is - Was Mary Brown[e] the daughter of James Brown[e] and Fanny McCrossan?

Both the Brown[e] and Bradley families lived at/near Quigley’s Point in Upper Moville in Donegal. The Brown[e]’s lived/owned Cabry House in Quigley’s Point. I have a living relative of mine who recalls Mary living at Cabry House. The Bradley property was located not far away at Carrowkeel. Unfortunately, Upper Moville church register records seem to be non-existent prior to Nov 1847 when Mary Bown[e] was likely born/baptized.

I have many baptism, marriage and death certificates that lead me to believe Mary is the sister of James jnr but I am lacking the birth/baptism (and so, her parents) of Mary.

Mary was born around 1846/1847 and possibly raised by James and Mary Kerrigan (Carrigan?) who were witnesses at her marriage to James Bradley snr in 1865. I think that James Bradley jnr may have been the illegitimate son of Mary born in 1861.

Given the situation with church register records, and Mary’s birth happening at the time of The Great Famine, it might only be possible to track down Mary’s birth and life if someone in the Brown[e] family has done considerable genealogy work.

    Kind Regards

    Noel
