Hi Everyone,
I have been searching for information about my early Kirkland Family of Moville, Donegal. Henry Kirkland and Sarah Erwin, with their children, arrived in NSW, Australia on 10 March 1839 onboard the ‘Susan’. Henry’s parents, my 4 x great-grandparents, George Kirkland and Margaret Belle McLaughlin (spelling may be incorrect because I have no positive sources relating to this couple), and his brother Richard Kirkland, remained in Ireland. I know Irish documentation was destroyed many years ago, but I wanted to put this message out there in the hope there are still descendants who may hold some information on my ancestors. Thank you for your assistance, Lyn Underhill NSW AUST.

Hi Patricia
When Henry and Sarah immigrated to NSW there was no child named George so he may have died. I am enclosing details recorded on their passenger list which includes the mentions the names of Henry’s parents. I know it is probably impossible to know if they had already passed away by the time Henry and Sarah come to Aust. Richard probably had his own family by 1839.

RootsIreland has baptisms for two sons of Richard and his wife, Jane. They lived in the townland of Cooley.

In the 1796 flax growers list, there was one Kirkland listed in Donegal:

Thank you, Patricia. I didn’t think of looking for a Facebook group. I appreciate your help. I hope to write a family history for my grandchildren, adding context to the stories rather than dates alone. Lyn
