Seeking info on my ggggrandparents, JAMES KELLY and Mary DEVANNY Divine). James, abt 1815 to bef. 1870 and Mary could be from Derrynanaspol and Derryconnell, Lettermacaward. Both Roman Catholic. In going through all the genealogical sites I could find, these towns are close together and have several Kelly's and Devanny's. James and Mary had two sons. My ancestor Patrick, abt.1835-1909, and Constantine 1843-1890. Constantine was born Cor, Glenties?, Donegal. I cannot confirm this. Patrick married Elizabeth Kennedy who was born1837, Kilbeggan, Westmeath. They were married 1857 in Scotland. Patrick and Elizabeth might have had a daughter, Catherine 1856, born in Ireland.
I have been to the Latter Day Saints librany in Salt Lake City, USA. I have been to the National Library in Dublin. I have tried Spinning Wheel, Griffiths, Tithe, Valuation, and spend many hours on the Internet. I have devoted 52 years to finding my Kelly's. With such a common name as James or Patrick, it is hard to choose which family is yours.
I have written to the area churches with no response and have looked at several cemeteries. A family member said he was told we originally came from Galway.
I will be forever grateful if someone could help me find my Kelly's.
Thank you in advance. Margaret Kelly Schwartz

Hi cousin. So nice and surprised to hear from you. I have not been on this website for years and just happened to come upon it. I decided to send you my entire file. As you can see, it is quite large. I have found it very frustrating that there doesn't seem to be any information on James and Mary. I also have Anne's (John Kennedy) Church Baptismal record stating her last name is Gormly and the death certificate states it is Gramant. Just like Elizabeth (James Kelly) is Devanny and Divine.
Patrick Peter Kelly (1865) and Elizabeth Cusick are my ggrandparents. I personally knew all of the children and spent a lot of time with them as they were a very close family. Elizabeth lived with my grandparents for awhile, and my grandmother and I used to visit her grave quite often.
My grandfather was Owen, my dad was Earl Eugene, which is Gaelic for Owen, and my latest ggrandchild is named Killian Owen. Elizabeth Cusick's father was Eugenio (Owen) Cusick. Yes, we certenly have a lot of Owen's.
I met someone who was related to Matthew Brady, brother of Owen Brady, but she didn't have any more information.
I was told Mary Divine's parents were Peter (1791) and Sarah (1801) and Mary was born in Gortahork, Donegal, but I don't have any proof. I was also told they had 8 children.
Patrick Peter (1865) was a miner. My dad used to tell me about him sometimes. We lived in Philadelphia, PA. They moved around a lot following the jobs. Grandpop started working in the mines when he was 9 years old. Of course, when I knew him, he was a shoemaker working for Edwards Shoes in Philadelphia. He and my grandmother were the best ever and I have always been proud to be one of that side of the Kelly family.
I hope you find this informative and I would love to hear from you and all about your family. I have been to Ireland and Scotland many times and it seems all roads lead to Stirling. A wonderful area. My very best to you.
Margaret Kelly Schwartz from Philadelphia, PA. I am presently living in Orange County, California.
