I would like to locate a copy of my grandmother's (Catherine Hughes) birth certificate.  She was born in or around 1888.  Her father was James Hughes, mother was Ellen (Brogan) Hughes.  Her siblings were James, Peter, William, Daniel, and Mary Ann (Mamie).  The 1901 census has them all resident in House 12 in Creevins (Mountcharles, Donegal), except Mamie who was born afterward but is listed on the 1911 census after my grandmother emigrated to New York USA.

Any suggestions as to where I should turn.  Church of Sacred Heart was not yet built at the time of her birth.  But I could start there.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Below is a transcription of her civil birth record. She was actually born 11/22/1887 but the birth was registerd in early 1888. Families had 30 days to register a birth or face a fine but I presume the registrar was lenient because of Christmas etc. Below the transcript is the index record. if you want a copy of the record, you have to write to the General Register Office. A copy costs around 4 euros and I can provide instuctions if you need them.
