McGowan's of Glenaboghil

I located the 1833 Tithe listings for James McGowan. He was leasing 62 acres in Glenaboghil.

Have you looked at the 1901 census for Glenaboghil (erroneously shown as Glenabohill)? I can see some additional daughters to James McGowan.

There are no early church records for the parish of Glenties. The parish has a chapel in Fintown which is very close to Glenaboghil so my guess is that the family was buried in the cemetery adjacent to St. Colmcille's RC church in Fintown.

Have you searched  irishgenealogy.ie ?
I have found a good number of records for McGowans

....however, the Irish had many colourful ways of spelling...so in these records Glenaboghil is spelled: GLENAHOHIL
the events below were registered at GLENTIES, however for a thorough exploration of the family do also have a look at DUNGLOE and LETTERKENNY registrations.

he had three older siblings:  James b.1867 / Mary b.1867 (which I know does not make sense) but everything fits. plus Ann b.1869

Catherine died in 1922  / the witness was her son - John

A mystery is Nancy Quinn vs Ann Quin - could they possibly be the same person?  It appears that William McGowan (1826) had children with these two women - yet I can't find a marriage registration for either - I have found a birth registration for James McGowan son of William and Nancy Quinn - all other children of William I have located are with Ann Quinn - by the 1911 Census - 'Nancy" is listed with Patrick, John and Bridget as her children - but their birth registrations say the mother is "Ann Quinn"
