Looking for James McGinly (2x Great Grandfather)b1843 in Londonderry County. Married Julia (Giley) McLaughlin.

Recently found my ancestor in the 1901 Census - Templemore Parish

Address in 1911 was No 5 Cable Street, (No 4 Urban West Ward), Londonderry

Children all Born in Derry

Hugh M 1863-1919 - Went to USA in 1880 (Great Grandfather)

James Willam 1864-Unkown - Stayed in Ireland , hoping he had a family

Daniel 1866-1925 Went to USA 1904

John 1870-1923 - Went to USA 1904

Lizzie 1872-1964 Went to USA 1904

Hannah 1876- Unknown Went to USA 1904 - Think she went back to Ireland

    The closest match on www.rootsireland.ie/ for James McGinley born 1843 in Derry is 2 baptisms in 1841 (could be the same one twice)

    rootsireland charges to view the full record so you would need to purchase some credit with them

    It SHOULD give you the fther's name and sometimes has both

    I went through the parishes and found that both records were from Long Tower R C so no need to buy both.

    I couldn't find the marriage record on rootsireland

    I have found these death records for James and Jiley McGinley.  They are buried in Derry City Cemetery.

    James McGinley of 9 Cable Street, Derry.  Born: Ramelton. Co. Donegal.  Age:  63  Died: 31 Dec, 1903.

    Jiley McGinley of 9 Cable Street, Derry.  Born: Milford, Co. Donegal.  Age: 57.  Died: 11 Sept, 1899

    I will check the local newspaper of the time for their death notices and get back to you in a few days.

  • Thanks so much. I have stalled on James for years. Where did you find this info. I have searched online for years. I would like to get a copy oh the records. That would help me further the research on the family.

    Here are the death notices as promised from the Londonderry Journal.

    Wednesday: September 13, 1899

    McGinley - September 11, at her husband's residence 9 Cable Street, off Stanley's Walk, Londonderry.  Jiley, beloved wife of James McGinley.  R.I.P.  Her remains will be removed for interment in the City Cemetery today (Wednesday) 13th inst at half past two o'clock.  Friends will please accept this the only intimation.

    McGinley - December 31, 1903 at his residence 9 Cable Street, Stanley's Walk, Derry.  James McGinley, deeply regretted.  R.I.P.  His remains will be removed for interment in the City Cemetery tomorrow (Saturday) 2nd January at half past two o'clock.  Friends will please accept this only intimation.  American papers please copy.
