I am looking for information about a Robert Shirley ( DoB guess 1835ish) who married Eliza Hutchinson before 1859. A son Robert was born in that year.
Other bits of information I have is that on the birth records of some of their children is things like, Garvagh, Derry, Ireland and 0463, Garvagh, Londonderry, Ireland. I cannot piece enough of it together to come up with more useful information.
Help required, please.

I don’t see a marriage in the Irish statutory marriage indexes for 1845 to 1860 for Robert’s marriage to Eliza. Could they have married outside Ireland?
Can you give us details of all their children, particularly those born after 1.1.1864, as we may be able to use that to locate them more specifically? I can see 3 possibles:
John 8.10.1865
Thomas 3.6.1871
Mary 21.4.1874
All registered in Coleraine. You can view the original certificates on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:
You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.
Let us know the townland(s) that the family were living at (from the birth certs), together with Robert’s occupation, and I’ll see if I can find a bit more.

You will not find Robert and Eliza's marriage on https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk Civil registration for non-Catholics marriages began in 1845. Catholics marriage registration began 1864. Son Robert was baptised in the RC Parish of Coleraine 21 Mar 1858. You ca download his baptism free on

Garvagh is both a post town and townland in the civil parish Errigal, County Derry, Ireland. You can find it easily on Google Maps by typing in Garvagh, United Kingdom.

Thanks Elwyn, for getting back to me. The three children mentioned, John, Thomas and Mary all match what I had found.
Bill you have introduced another child, probably the eldest, Robert. I found the written record on the NLI registers, great. It is a difficult register to view being the original hand written record.
It is a bit further forward, thank you both. The mystery now is where did Robert and Eliza come from and where did they get married. Onward and upward!
