Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Garvagh is a village in the civil parish of Errigal, Co. Derry, so it may be an idea to post this message on that parish page in the hope that someone from the area will be able to help you.
Do you know what Catherine?s religious denomination was? If so, you can check Church records for information. Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Errigal follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.
There is also a good collection of baptismal/marriage certs available at www.familysearch.org so you may be lucky and find dome record of Catherine here.
You may also find either her birth or marriage record in Civil Registration records which are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:
http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You can search the indexes to these records here: https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
Have you tried searching the 1901 census records? These can sometimes give lots of useful information. You should also search the 1911 record for any family that may have remained in Ireland. You can search these here:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
It may also be an idea to look into their immigration records as sometimes more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure. Check the US National Archives at:
http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/
Some other websites which you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Genealogy Links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/derry/index.html
Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you.
Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,
Genealogy Support

Thank you so much for the information and leads! I did check the census, but there were so many people with the same name and approximate date of birth that I couldn't narrow her down. She was catholic so the church information will be helpful as will knowing the parish. Thanks again.
