You don’t say what denomination your Crosset ancestors were but I’ll assume Presbyterian since all the entries in the 1831 census for Magherafelt were of that denomination. Magherafelt Presbyterian church’s records only start in 1771, so tracing earlier than that will be very difficult indeed.
Crosset might be a Huguenot name. Certainly the Huguenot refugees tended to be of a Calvinistic background and so favoured Presbyterianism to the Church of Ireland. Louis 14th revoked the edict of Nantes in 1685 and many of the Huguenot refugees to Ireland and England came after that. However there are very few records that go back that far in Ireland.
PRONI has various leases for Crosset households in the Magherafelt area, mainly from the 1800s. You haven’t said where your ancestors lived so it’s difficult to know if they relate to your specific family. I can see from the 1831 census that there were about 10 Crosset households in the Magherafelt area at that time. Your family’s townland should be on the 1853 marriage certificate.

thanks for your repy. I did a lot of research several years ago and have come back now hoping to fill in some blanks.
I have:
David Crossett b.1754 Magherafelt
Thomas Crossett b.1788 Killfaddy wife Mary Ann
Samuel Crossett 1810-1849 wife Eliza Mcillwane, Kilfaddy
Sarah Anne Crossett Killfaddy b.1836 spouse Alexanader Dale1820-1894 Ballymulderg-They are buried in Clare Church but I do not know where that is. Seems most of their children migrated to Australia except Sarah who moved to the USA
James Dale Ballymulderg 1860-1944
Where can I access the 1831 census?

You can access the 1831 census on this site. Note that most of the entries are repeated for some reason:

There were 3 Crosset households in Killyfady. Thomas with 3 males and 7 females, John with 5 males and 4 females & Samuel with 2 males and 4 females. All Presbyterian. Evidently the last one is your immediate family but they’ll be related to the other two.
The 1740 Protestant census doesn’t list any Crossett households in the parish. There is a Samuel Crossan which might be the same name or it may be that the family first arrived in the area after 1740.

Crossett John Wilson of Killyfaddy Magherafelt county Londonderry farmer died 17 November 1943 Administration Belfast 7 November to Thomas Crossett farmer. Effects £428 0s. 8d.
Crossett William of Killyfaddy Magherafelt county Londonderry farmer old age pension died 2 October 1928 Probate Londonderry 27 October to Robert Ritchie farmer. Effects £136 5s. 9d.
The above probate files are all in PRONI in Belfast.
Clare graveyard is better known as Kildress. It’s in the townland of Clare and is off the Cookstown to Omagh road near Wellbrook Beetling Mill. But be warned that many of the graves are unmarked, and records do not exist as map was redrawn and unclaimed graves were reallocated.

Eryka91,
I cannot vouch for the accuracy of online trees but there is one that says Thomas Crossett born 1788 in Killyfaddy married Mary Sexton Dec 1810, don't know where, first born was Samuel abt 1811, died 1849, who married Elizabeth McIlwaine in 1835 and had Sarah Ann July 21, 1836 in Killyfaddy. My interest in this family was that Thomas Crossett born 1788 MAY have had a sister Ann who married Henry Leacock abt 1814. I am struggling to research this family.

Would there be any hope of finding the marriage of Anne Crossett to Henry Leacock about 1814 in the Kildress records. Would that be known as the Kildress Presbyterian Church or COI or something else? Henry and Anne baptized all children at Woods Church of Ireland, but are buried at Magherafelt COI. I have checked many COI records looking for the marriage and hopefully the father of each of them,, but have not found the marriage, but I have not tried Kildress. Thanks for any help.

Hi. I'm from New Zealand and no next to nothing about this side of my ancestry. I stumbled across this by an internet search. James Crossett Leacock (1904 - 1996) was my great grandfather, and a few weeks back an entry with his name (not allowed to link) has popped up on Wikitree. A further search brought me here to this discussion.
It could be a coincidence, but he might descend from the 'marriage of Anne Crossett to Henry Leacock about 1814 in the Kildress records' (Peggy) as he bears both names.
He was born in Ireland and I recall he spoke with an Irish accent, he died when I was 26 though I only met him a handful of times.
I hope this helps.

JNewman, this is Peggy. I found the parents of James Crossett Leacock 1904-1996? He was born Mar 19, 1904 in Megargy to William Leacock and Sarah Elizabeth Crossett. William and Sarah were married in 1899 at Lecumpher Presbyterian in the parish of Desertmartin. William's parents Thomas and Eliza Jane Bowman, Sarah's parents
James Crossett (second marriage) in 1868 to Mary Elizabeth McKee. James' father was William so not Henry. But you have given me an idea. I have
not checked Lecumpher Presbyterian for Henry's marriage although I have checked many others in the area.
