Gr Gr Grandfather William Murray died 1876 married Mary Lynch (abt 1822) He had title to land in NewtownLimavady. (registered in 1858 Griffiths Valuation) Unusual for a Catholic to hold Freehold of their land in those times. According to family Bible he was born Married & Died in Limavady. Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried searching in Church records in Limavady for either Mary or William?s baptismal record? This would list their parent?s names. Most Church records are held locally, so it may be an idea to write to the parish priest for possible assistance. One website which you may find useful is the Irish Times, where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Limavady/Drumchose parish follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/. The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf
Have you tried searching for the family on Family Search? This is a huge database of genealogical records compiled by the Church of the Latter Day Saints. It includes marriages and birth records in the pre-1871 period. You can search this here:
Did you try to find record of Murray in the Tithe Applotment Books? These are earlier land records than the Griffith?s Valuation. They were compiled between 1823 and 1838. Perhaps if Williams? father held the land before him you may find him in these records. Here is the link:

You could also contact the Derry Genealogy Centre for help locating records. However a fee may apply for their services. Here are their contact details:

Regarding your grandfather?s family, I would suggest that you also post a message on the Clare County page or the Kilfinaghta Civil Parish page (this is the parish that Sixmilebridge belongs to)
You could also try looking in the parish records here. Here is the Irish Times link to the records of Sixmilebridge:
If you would like to contact the Clare Heritage Centre for assistance, here is their information:
Clare Heritage Centre,
Corofin,
Co. Clare.
Phone: +353 (0) 65 6837955 Email: clareheritage@eircom.net
Some websites which you may find helpful with your research on both families are:

A shot in the dark, but did your William Murray have a son called Daniel Scott Murray? According to DSM's 1979 Limavady marriage details, his father was William, but of course there was no mention of whether DSM's father was dead or allive.
