I am looking for information on Owen Hegarty and Catherine O'Neill, who married in the Draperstown RC Church in Ballynascreen in 1850. There are no townlands, fathers' names, or names of sponsors recorded in the register. They had 7 children: Isabella (Cavanreagh, 1851), Francis (Cavanreagh, 1853), twins James and Patrick (Glengoma, 1854), Mary (Glengoma, 1857), Ann (Cahore, 1859), and John (Bancran, 1860).
Francis, James, Patrick, and Mary emigrated to the US in the 1880s. Ann died in Derry in 1915. I have not found anything on Owen, Isabella, or John so they may have died prior to civil registration in 1864. Catherine O'Neill Hegarty (widowed) is found in the 1901 census living with a nephew in Co. Tyrone.
Griffiths Valuation shows a Daniel Hagerty in Cavanreagh. Daniel was also listed in the 1831 census in Miltown (in the Six Towns area). I believe that he might be Owen's father. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I would be surprised if Daniel was the father of Owen since none of Owen's sons were named Daniel. I would expect his father might be Francis or Patrick and there is a Patrick Hegarty in the 1831 census in Tonaght townland (and also in the 1858 Griffiths). http://census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/c19/007246494/007246494_00329.p…

All of the townlands mentioned with the baptismal records in your m essage are in Ballynacreen parish so it appears Owen and his family moved around and did not have a permanent home at least in the 1850s. Owen does not show up in the Griffiths.
Let me know if you have questions.

Thank you Roger. I have wondered about the naming patterns because Patrick (my great-granfather) did not name any of his sons 'Owen'. His first born son was named Daniel.

Hi, Im looking for records on my great great grandparents and when I searched your post came up. Thomas O'Neill ( 1832-1871) married Margaret Haggerty (born abt 1831) They were born in Ireland and married in port glassgow scotland. I just found the similar names together odd. Wonder if they are connected!!
