I am searching for more information about this couple, as I wish to make sure they are my ancestors.

I have an marriage index entry that states the following:

John Dimond married Mary McReonalds on 15 May 1864 in Ballymoney, Derry, Ireland.  According to the index, John was born about 1844 (there are differing accounts as to which country).  His father was James Dimond.  Mary was born about 1844 in Ireland and was daughter of John McReonalds (spelling per the index).

To be my John and Mary, they would have had to have immigrated to the U.S. about 1874.  Their son John, born about 1865 in Ireland, may have immigrated with them or may have come to the U.S. a few years later (by 1880).

Does anyone have any info that would help me make sure these families are one and the same?

Thank you!

  • Hello Dayuh, I don't know if this will help you or not. I have been researching my g-g-grandfather, William Dimond, and his second wife Ellen Reynolds. Still not sure where in Ireland they originated, but they landed in NY during the Famine, eventually settling in Manhattan. William was a tailor, and Ellen was a seamstress. In my research of the NYC records I have come across many marriages between Dimonds and Reynolds--here is the NYC Vital Records site: https://a860-historicalvitalrecords.nyc.gov/digital-vital-records There were also several Dimonds in Paterson, NJ, which was a major industrial center with a lot of weaving businesses; several of the Dimonds I found were weavers. One newspaper item I found mentioned that this particular James Dimond descended from French Huguenots who settled near Dublin. Hopefully this is of help to you--best of luck! Bill
