Hello Friends, 

I am searching for information on my great grandparents. Bernard was born abt 1843. I do not know his parents names. The 1901 census shows Bernard was a widower living in Landagivey with 5 of his children. He died in 1907 and according to his will he left he belongings to his daughter Sarah.  Sarah remained in  NI and died in 1960. She is buried at Our Lady of Assumption. Most of the other children came to America..except for John who went to Australia and was killed  in battle in France during WW1.

My great grandmother had a brother William J Boyle. I don't know when she was  born or her parents names but my grandfather Joseph was born in October of 1893 so she must have died between Oct. of 1893 and before the 1901 census. I wonder if she died during childbirth. 

I would love to find out the when Catherine died and the cause of death.  Her birth info and parents names would also be wonderful to find. 

I know Bernard died in 1907 but cause of death would be helpful to know. Also there are many Dunlops and Boyles buried at Our Lady of Assumption but I haven't found Bernard or Catherine. 

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Bernard’s marriage to Catherine Boyle was registered in Coleraine on 22.7.1875. If you view the civil marriage cert it should give you their fathers names, townlands etc which should help trace the 2 families back, using Griffiths and the revaluation records.

    I can see a death that might be Catherine’s registered in Coleraine 23.3.1897, aged 42. The death cert will give you the cause of death.

    I can’t see Bernard’s death listed in the Irish civil death indexes.

    I noted this probate abstract on the PRONI wills site (the will itself is not on-line but should be in PRONI);

    Dunlop Sarah of Landagivey Aghadowey county Londonderry widow died 21 May 1926 Probate Belfast 11 March to John Dunlop farmer. Effects £25 10s.

    Incidentally, I assume you have been looking in the NLI Wills index and found Bernard’s probate abstract. You say that in his will his belongings were left to Sarah. That’s not correct. Sarah was just the executor of the estate. Bernard died intestate (he left no will) and so his assets would have been divided up in accordance with intestacy laws. The revaluation records for 1909 show the farm (plot 4 in Landagivey) passing to John Dunlop, not to Sarah.

    Thank you so much for the information and quick response. The dates for Catherine's death look like it could be my great grandmother. Also your explaination of the Wills index was helpful. It makes sense to me now.

    I don't know who the Sarah you mention is. My Sarah died in 1960. There were 2 Sarahs listed in Landagivey in 1901. I am guessing that the one who died in 1926 is the one listed in 1901 at age 56 living with Ellen. No doubt we are related somehow but I haven't gotten that far yet.
