I have baptismal records of 4 children of James Barry and Catherine Daly from St. Patrick's parish beginning in 1845.  By 1860 the family of 5 (assumed one child passed before emigrating) were in Virginia, USA.  I haven't been able to find the marriage record of James & Catherine.  Contact with St. Patrick's has gone dry and I get no response to emails to the parish.

A Patrick and Ellen Barry are listed as sponsors on two baptismal records and Hannah and Margaret Daly are listed on two others.  I've searched with all names but haven't found anything.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I searched the subscription site FindMyPast.ie  and located four baptismal records but did not find the marriage record. Here is the parish register for St. Patrick's  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0042   You may want to scan the register for marriages before June 1845. Note there are two films with marriage records pre-1845. Marriages were held in the bride's church so it is possible that her parish does not have records available for the early 1840s. The other three Cork city parishes, however, all seem to have marriage records available.

  • Thank you, Roger McDonnell.  Those are the same baptismal records I have on file from St. Patrick's.

I have searched numerous sites with earlier marriage dates as well but have come up empty handed.  The only possible reference to Catherine Daly's birth is from St. Mary's RC Church in Boherbue, Cork in 1828, via the "Irish Records Extraction Database" found at the Family History Library in Utah.

Do you know if St. Mary's has data online?  I don't recall seeing the name of that church in my searches.

    Thanks again for your time.

The church in Boherbue is the Church of the Immaculate Conception.    https://www.churchservices.tv/boherbue   Are your sure it is St. Mary's? Also, records for Boherbue start in 1833.

  • Thanks for the information, Roger.  I will check out the Boherbue database.  Of course, I still won't be sure it's "my" Catherine, but might lead to more.  The only reason I mentioned St. Mary's was because that was the church mentioned in the Ancestry record.  One never knows how accurate they are!  Thanks again.
