Hello -

I have a quick question - hope it is not a silly question - but I long ago learned to take nothing for granted when doing genealogy research.

I recently found a record that I believe pertains to my family (my great grandfather's baptism in 1862) in the Catholic Registers that were recently released. It was listed in the Parish of Kilworth. Can one assume that this event probably took place in St Martin's Church?

Thank you,

Maureen Goldsbury

  • There was a chapel in Kilworth at the same location back to the 1830s at least, now occupied by St. Martin's. The chapel is named on the c1890 OSI map, and shown as just R.C. Chapel on the c1840 OSI map. According to the buildings of Ireland website the chapel dates back to 1800. There was also a second chapel for the parish at Coolmahon townland.
