My husband's ancestors were THOMAS ROCHE and MARGARET RIORDAN.  They married in Kilworth, Cork, on 2 Dec 1837.  They had six children baptised at Kilworth:

Mary (1838), Catherine & Unknown (Twins) (1840), Bridget (1844), Johanna (1846) & John (1848).

They then seem to have moved to Fermoy where they had three more children baptised:

Elizabeth (1851), Ellen (1853) & Anne (1857).

Of their children, I know that John died at Rathealy, Fermoy, in 1868.  Mary, Bridget and Ellen all immigrated to Queensland, Australia.  Catherine (Kate) went to England.

I believe that Margaret died in the Fermoy Work House in 1890 and there is a death which may fit Thomas in 1872.

I am keen to find out what became of Johanna, Elizabeth and Anne.

I would also like to discover the names of Thomas & Margaret's parents.  Unfortunately, I am told that no Parish Registers were kept for Kilworth prior to circa 1829.

From the names of sponsors & witnesses at baptisms and marriages, I believe that Margaret may have had at least three siblings:

Denis Riordan m. Bridget Keeffe 1838 Kilworth

Jeremiah Riordan m.Johanna Ahern 1832 Kilworth

Thomas Riordan m. Mary Cunningham 1843 Kilworth

Would love to hear from anyone who knows of these families.

  • Thanks so much for the link to the Kilworth Census of 1851.  I had no idea that it had survived.  Unfortunately, my families must have moved to Fermoy by this time as they are not included.  There are others, however, who may be siblings.  Very grateful for this tip.
