I will be visiting the area in April 2015. I have directions contained in a letter from the early 1900's detailing how get to from Macroom to a Cronin family farm in Ballynagree.

The inhabinants may have been Dennis Cronin born c 1840 and Mary Greaney (or Carney) (b 1837?)

Possible leads from previous reserachers have hinted that the Crowley family may have been either from Dripsey or Gotroe.

The family immigrated to the USA in the 1880s and settled in Connecticut. The Cronin family and Crowley families intermarried  (i.e.,  Cronin sister married Crowley brother; Crowleysister married Cronin) making wonder if they knew each other in Ireland.

Looking for Bartholomew (James? or Jeremiah?) Crowley born c 840 (possible parents jeremiah and Julia) married c 1860 to Ellen (Mary) Ford.

Many thanks-

Kathy Kelley

  • Kathy:

I checked the Roots Ireland indexes and found an 1861 marriage between a Bart Crowley and Ellen Ford in the Inniscarra RC church. Inniscarra parish is to the west of Macroom. Parents names were not listed and this marriage was before civil registration.

I could not locate a marriage of Denis Cronin to Mary Carney or Mary Greaney.

  • Roger- Thank you- I have that record. ~Kathy

I am hoping that someone may connect to the Cronin farm. This is what I have:

" On the road from Macroom to Ballynagree, 1 mile south of Ballynagree at 4 Corned Cross Road (sic) go left about 1/2 mile on left is a large stand of Spruce on right shortly afterwards..on the right will be a stand of white spruce about 200 yards after stand on right side is a row of telephone poles going up a lane with a grey house ona hill. Go up lane- it will seem quite a long and narrow (do not go off lane to either side as there is a narrow ditch on both sides about 18" deep) At the end of the lane is a " Y" go right as soon as you turn right the farm is in a hollw ..first you will see the hay barn and then the house"
